Diego Felipe López Aguirre

Diego F. López Aguirre holds a Ph.D (2026) in Spanish from the University of Notre Dame. His current academic research focuses on how the humanist traditions of antiquarianism and collectionism were modified and adapted by early modern Spanish Americans intellectuals in the process of defining local and regional identities. His investigations also explore questions regarding the intersection of material culture, visual and textual traditions, trans-Atlantic circulation of ideas, race, identity, and memory. Parallely, he also inquires of the formation of cultural institutions such as museums, libraries, and archives during the late 19th and early 20th centuries and their relationship with the foundation of Latin American republics, their national history, and their cultural heritage.
