Nayla Hernandez Ramirez

Originally from Colorado, Nayla is a first-year master's student in the department's French and Francophone Studies program. She holds a B.A. in Romance Languages and Literatures from the University of Notre Dame (Spanish and French, 2026), where she minored in the Glynn Family Honors Program. As a non-native speaker of Spanish and French, Nayla is particularly passionate about adult-centered language pedagogy, and has extensive experience accompanying students of all ages in their language-learning journeys, including as a language tutor at La Escuela Municipal de Idiomas del Ayuntamiento de Toledo (España) and as a Gallery Teacher at the Raclin Murphy Museum of Art. While completing her undergraduate degree, Nayla fostered a particular interest in the environmental humanities and the field's impacts on modern artistic perceptions and modes of production; her senior honor's thesis, entitled "Cómo hacer una piñata : una investigación acerca del arte antropogénico", explores the implications of the Anthropocene on the cultural and auratic work of art. Nayla's studies of the Francophone diaspora and its literatures bring the question of the Anthropocene and its cultural relevance in artistic production into focus through a post-colonial theoretical approach.

 

In Nayla's free time, she enjoys writing, keeping up with loved ones, roller skating, and going to the movies.
