Roberto Álamos Herrera

Roberto is a PhD student in the Spanish program at the University of Notre Dame. Born and raised in Rancagua, Chile, he holds a BA in Law, a Diploma in World Literatures, and an MA in Latin American Studies, all from Universidad de Chile.

 

His research explores indigenism in Latin American Post-Avant-Garde poetry and narrative, and its relations with other disciplines, such as sociology, history, and anthropology. He also studies cultural diplomacy in Latin America. Recently, his book chapter, “Los intelectuales/diplomáticos en las relaciones culturales y literarias entre América Latina y la Unión Soviética: el caso chileno (1965-1970)”, was accepted for publication in J. Gallardo Saborido & B. Kovačević Petrovic (Eds.), La literatura latinoamericana y el socialismo europeo: Redes, recepción e imaginarios en el contexto de la Guerra Fría cultural (in press).

 

Before joining Notre Dame, Roberto was part of a research project that studied Alejandro Lipschütz’s earliest indigenist work, Indoamericanismo y Raza India (1937), funded by Chile’s National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (FONDECYT). Besides his academic interests, Roberto enjoys writing essays, photography, and running.
