Ph.D. Italian

Research Interests

Peerawat Chiaranunt is a graduate of the 'Great Books' program at St. John's College (B.A. '17) and of Yale Divinity School and the Institute of Sacred Music (M.A.R. '19), where he concentrated in Religion & Literature. He comes to Notre Dame with a desire to deepen his studies of Dante's works and the philosophical and theological discourses of the medieval world. Specific topics that move his thinking include: the interface between love and truth, the nature of poetry as a revelatory activity, the purviews and horizons of language and human knowing, and the possible roles of beauty in our quest for the summum bonum.

Throughout his doctoral studies, Peerawat hopes to explore, too, the history of the Petrarchan lyric and the intellectual foundations of modernity within the Italian context.
