Biography

A native of São Paulo, Brazil, Professor Teixeira taught courses in Portuguese language, and Portuguese and Brazilian culture. She served as the language coordinator for the Portuguese program at the University, and she was the faculty advisor for both the Brazil Club and the Portuguese Language Club. Professor Teixeira also wrote a handbook for beginners in Portuguese with the support of Title VI and the Helen Kellogg Institute for International Studies. Her research interests include teaching language and culture using mixed media resources and short stories from Lusophone literature. She is a recipient of the University's Rev. Edmund P. Joyce, C.S.C., Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, and Indiana's American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) EXTIMO student voice award for outstanding Portuguese teacher. Additionally, Sandra was a five-time recipient of the "Favorite Professor" recognition by her students throughout her years teaching.
