Research Interests
A Chevalier in the French national Ordre des Palmes Académiques, former President of the Conseil International d’Études Francophones, and former Editor-in-Chief of Nouvelles Études Francophones, Catherine Perry specializes in French and Francophone literatures from the nineteenth century to the present.
Her research focuses on intellectual history, gender studies, representations of North Africa, Francophone literatures of the Maghreb, and French and Francophone cinema. She is the author of Persephone Unbound: Dionysian Aesthetics in the Works of Anna de Noailles and has published on major writers including Marcel Proust, André Gide and Rainer Maria Rilke. She also edited Femmes d'islam dans la littérature, le cinéma et l'art contemporain.
With her late husband, Gregory Vandenbroucke, she donated major collections on Anna de Noailles to the Hesburgh Libraries Rare Books Collection at the University of Notre Dame.
Professor Perry is also a recipient of multiple teaching awards.
