Exciting News: Diego López Aguirre Awarded Notre Dame Rome Dissertation Research Fellowship:
Please join us in celebrating Diego López Aguirre, a dedicated fourth-year doctoral candidate in Spanish, who has received the esteemed Notre Dame Rome Dissertation Research Fellowship for Fall 2025. His innovative dissertation delves into the temporal strategies employed by various lettered colonial subjects in New Granada. It examines how their constructions of the past functioned as vital political instruments within the Early Modern Iberian context, enabling them to negotiate political agendas, challenge existing structures, and envision future possibilities.
The Notre Dame Rome Dissertation Research Fellowship offers significant support, including a $9,000 housing stipend, airfare coverage, comprehensive international health insurance, guidance through the visa and immigration processes (with associated costs covered by the fellow), and dedicated office space at their facility on Via Ostilia, a short walk from the Colosseum. During his fellowship, Diego will pursue his proposed research plan and actively contribute to the academic life of Notre Dame Rome through participation in seminars and presentations of his ongoing work.
