Notre Dame Provost Jhon McGreevy visits Biblioteca Nacional de Mexico

In late October, Provost John McGreevy visited the Biblioteca Nacional de México in Mexico City as part of a broader series of activities during his time in Mexico. The visit to the Biblioteca Nacional was organized by Carlos Alberto Jauregui, Professor of Latin American Literature and Anthropology at the University of Notre Dame, who is currently serving as a Fulbright García Robles Research Scholar in Mexico.

Professor Jauregui welcomed the Provost alongside Notre Dame colleagues Maria Di Pasquale, Jean McManus, Arnie Phifer, and Maria Mercedes Salmon. The delegation was hosted by Dr. María Andrea Giovine Yáñez, Director of the Biblioteca Nacional and the Instituto de investigaciones bibliográficas (UNAM), along with professors Dalmacio Rodríguez and Alberto Partida Gómez. Highlights of the visit included a tour of the rare books housed in the Sala Mexicana, where the group was introduced to Mexican bibliographic treasures, including numerous Jesuit works from the colonial period.

As part of a series of activities during his time in Mexico, the Provost attended a dinner at Hacienda de los Morales, bringing together Notre Dame alumni, students, and faculty based in Mexico City.
