In 2024, Jacques Audiard's film Emilia Pérez, set in Mexico, received numerous awards in France and the United States, while also sparking significant controversy in Mexico. Simultaneously, the term "Mexicanization" became widespread in much of the French political and media sphere to describe a society that is becoming increasingly violent due to drug trafficking. What does this French focus on Mexico teach us?
