Notre Dame International

Notre Dame is consistently a leader among the top 20 national universities in the percentage of undergraduates who study abroad. For more than 40 years, the University has operated an international study program in Angers, France, in association with the Université Catholique de l’Ouest, one of the country’s premier regional universities. Angers is located in the heart of the Loire Valley, dubbed the “Valley of the Kings” and home to some of the finest examples of medieval and Renaissance art and architecture. Our students live with French families, perfect their knowledge of the French language, and study French literature, philosophy, history, art history, music, and civilization.

There are also opportunities to study in Paris. Since in 2013, advanced students can study at Paris Diderot in the host college U.F.R. Lettres, Arts et Cinéma (LAC). Students can also apply to an exchange program with the Institut d’Études Politiques de Paris, better known as Sciences Po during the academic year. During the summers, the department faculty often host special seminars as well.

Students regularly refer to the experience of living and studying in Angers, Paris or Senegal as one of the most valuable of their undergraduate years. It’s an unforgettable time of exploration and self-discovery, of personal and intellectual growth that leads to a greater awareness of France and Europe as well as an increased appreciation of the United States’ place within the world community.
