Olivia Tarman

Olivia is a first year master's student in French and Francophone Studies. Originally from Pennsylvania, she is a graduate of the Robert E. Cook Honors College at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. At IUP, she majored in English language and literature while studying Arabic and French. Her passion for travel and international education led her to complete several study abroad programs, including a summer literature program at the University of Cambridge in England and an intensive summer Arabic program at the American University in Beirut in Lebanon. She also completed a year-long domestic exchange program at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where she was able to further her knowledge of linguistics and foreign languages.

 

Following graduation, Olivia started a professional career which has given her a rich range of experiences. After working in immigration law for a couple of years, Olivia decided that her international interests lie more firmly in the field of language education. She completed the TAPIF program in France where she worked as an English teaching assistant in two public high schools in Metz, France. Upon her return to the United States, she began teaching French levels I-IV at a junior boarding school in Connecticut. She has contracted with Duolingo as a French/Arabic/English translator since 2022. Olivia looks forward to using this time at Notre Dame to pursue her research interests, to deepen her knowledge of French, and to enhance her capacity for teaching.
