Roberto Luraschi

Biography

I’m a first-year PhD student in Italian Studies at Notre Dame. After studying Philosophy at the University of Milan (BA), I moved to Los Angeles, where I earned an MA in Aesthetics and Politics from the California Institute of the Arts. I’m interested in the relationship between philosophy and art. Starting with a close analysis of singular cases from the Italian tradition, I enjoy investigating why and how artworks’ experiences can produce a moral and metaphysical understanding of the world that goes beyond conceptual reflection. For example, my master’s thesis investigates the ways in which the Italian filmmaker Luchino Visconti reinvented his style to make his audience perceive truths concealed to human logic. When I’m not overthinking philosophy, I’m probably watching soccer (forza Inter!), chilling with a series, at the gym avoiding leg workouts, or drinking tea.
