Jocelyn Arcos

Biography

Jocelyn Arcos is a first-generation Latina student from Southern California. She holds a B.A. in Spanish and a B.A. in Africana & Latin American Studies from Colgate University. She enjoys studying literature from the Golden Age in Spain, with a special interest for María de Zayas. Specifically, she studies themes within Catholicism such as conservatism, marriage, love, gender roles, honor, and purity. During her undergraduate years, Jocelyn studied abroad in Madrid, Spain, worked as a Spanish tutor, was inducted into Sigma Delta Pi (Spanish Honors Society), and wrote a thesis titled “La religiosidad en lo secular en Amor es más laberinto y Los empeños de una casa por Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz [The Religious within the Secular in Love is the Greater Labyrinth and House of Desires by Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz]” earning her an honors distinction. She was also awarded the Excellence in Spanish Studies award by the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at Colgate University. At Notre Dame, Jocelyn works as an Assistant Rector in the biggest and best female dorm, McGlinn Hall.
