Giulia Maria Gliozzi

Biography

Giulia Maria Gliozzi is a third-year Ph.D. student in Italian Studies at the University of Notre Dame. Her research interrogates the intersections of historical memory, editorial mediation, and gendered trauma, focusing on early Holocaust testimonies by Italian Jewish women written in the first decade after 1945. She aims to recover these understudied voices and examine how cultural exclusion and publishing choices shaped Italy’s collective memory in the postwar period. Giulia’s commitment to public scholarship and community engagement draws inspiration from Liliana Segre’s words: “Indifference is a form of violence.”

She is a Graduate Fellow at the Institute for Social Concern and Sorin Fellow de Nicola Center for Ethics and Culture.

In summer 2023, she collaborated with the Opera del Vocabolario Italiano (OVI) to contribute new entries to the Tesoro della Lingua Italiana delle Origini. In 2022, she earned the Dante Society of America's Grandgent Award.

Before joining Notre Dame, Giulia earned her M.A. in Italian at Boston College, where she has been recognized with the Donald J. White Teaching Excellence Award (2021) and served as President of the Romance Languages Graduate Student Association. She holds a B.A. in Humanities and Philosophy from La Sapienza University in Rome. She also brings experience in public humanities and museum education, having worked at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, where she led programs for low-income schools.
