Dillon Hughes

Biography

Dillon Hughes is a first-year Master’s student in Italian Studies at the University of Notre Dame. He earned his Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Romance Languages and Literatures - Italian and Spanish, along with a minor in Portuguese, from the University of Notre Dame in 2024. Dillon holds extensive experience teaching and accompanying students of foreign languages at various levels. He has served in previous roles including: an Italian and Spanish Peer Tutor at the Center for the Study of Languages and Cultures, an Italian and Portuguese Student Gallery Teacher at the Raclin Murphy Museum of Art, and, most recently, a high school Spanish I and II teacher in Chicago, Illinois.

Currently, Dillon’s research interests focus on Dante, particularly his poetics of language in the Commedia, the De vulgari eloquentia, and his lyric poetry. Dillon is also curious about researching shared styles and aesthetics across Romance literature during the Middle Ages, specifically the relationship between Italian and Iberian lyric poetry. After completing the Master’s program, he intends to continue on to doctoral work in the field of Italian Studies.
