Biography
Ana Leticia Fauri is Associate Teaching Professor of Portuguese in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at the University of Notre Dame, where she has taught since 2020. She specializes in Portuguese and Brazilian literature, Lusophone cultural studies, and film, with particular emphasis on literature, censorship, and gender under authoritarian regimes in Portugal and Brazil.
She holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Portuguese and Brazilian Studies from Brown University, as well as a Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) and an M.A. in Literary Theory from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), Brazil. Her doctoral research examined the relationship between literature, political repression, and surveillance during the Portuguese Estado Novo, drawing extensively on archival materials from the National Archives at Torre do Tombo in Lisbon.
Her scholarship explores the intersections of literature, history, and political ideology, with particular attention to questions of memory, identity, resistance, and cultural representation. She has published peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on Portuguese and Brazilian authors such as José Saramago, Clarice Lispector, Urbano Tavares Rodrigues, and Erico Verissimo, and is co-editor of Erico Verissimo na União Panamericana: Discursos 1953–1956 (2020). Her work has appeared in leading journals in Lusophone and Brazilian studies, and she regularly presents at international conferences including MLA and APSA.
Professor Fauri is actively engaged in archival research in Portugal and Brazil and is currently developing research on Portuguese women writers during the Estado Novo, based on primary sources from the Torre do Tombo. Alongside her research, she is deeply committed to undergraduate teaching, curricular innovation, and engaged learning. She coordinates faculty-guided community and study abroad initiatives, designs experiential learning projects, and regularly leads faculty-led programs in Portugal.

Portuguese and Brazilian literature and culture; Lusophone studies; twentieth- and twenty-first-century literature and film; literature under authoritarian regimes; censorship, repression, and resistance; gender and women writers in the Portuguese Estado Novo; memory, identity, and ideology; Portuguese and Luso-African cinema; experiential and engaged language learning; study abroad pedagogy.
