tiffany robertsComing to college I knew that I wanted to study abroad in Italy, so I took the appropriate classes and ended up minoring in Italian. Professor Blad’s class on Popular Culture was so much fun--and a great introductionto the culture I would encounter while studying abroad in Rome. But the most influential class I took was Italian Theater Workshop, which I participated in for three years. Professors Colleen Ryan and Laura Colangelo really helped to make the Italian language a useful tool for communication. I learned how to properly use conjugations, Italian gestures, and a wide variety of vocabulary. The class provided a comfortable and nurturing setting to try out your language skills and learn through trial.

In the fall of 2005, I studied abroad in Rome, Italy. It was the most amazing experience of my life. Not only did I attend a university in the heart of Rome and take classes about the wonderfulItalian culture and history, but Igotto enjoy the wonderful sights of Italy through travel. I also had the unique opportunity to play for John Cabot University’s women’s soccer team and a local Italian soccer league.

I strongly recommend studying abroad. It is a great way to make the language come to life. Second, participate in the Theater program if it is offered for the language. The full-immersion experience is the ultimate way to learn and use the language. And finally, have fun!
