Research Profile
Hugo J. Verani is a specialist in Spanish-American literature, with an emphasis in Southern Cone and Mexican literatures. He has published extensively in specialized journals in Europe, the United States, and Spanish America. He is the author of many books including: Onetti: el ritual de la impostura, Bibliografía crítica de Octavio Paz, Las vanguardias literarias en Hispanoamérica, Narrativa vanguardista hispanoamericana, and De la vanguardia a la postmodernidad: narrativa uruguaya, 1920-1995. In 2007, his commemorative edition of Octavio Paz's Piedra de Sol was published by the Fondo de Cultura Economica. Verani is also author or editor of three forthcoming books: an edition of the correspondence between Juan Carlos Onetti and Julio Payro set to appear in 2009, a revised and expanded edition of his critical bibliography on Octavio Paz, and a study of the Nobel Prize-winner's poetry and poetics.
