Professor Martin teaches intermediate and advanced level courses within the Department's French language and culture sequence. He is conversant with modern theories of the literary text and specifically interested in a semiotic approach to poetic structures. Trained as a comparatist, he also explores interdisciplinary topics involving language, psychology, philosophy, and literature. His most recent work has focused on the beatitudes. While serving as the resident Director of Notre Dame's study abroad program in Angers, France (2003-2005), he team-taught the undergraduate seminar: "Poverty of Spirit: Intellectual Disposition, Practical Virtue".
