Research Profile
Laurence Hooper's research focuses on Italian culture of the medieval period, with a particular emphasis on the work of Dante. He has recently prepared an article on the presence of medieval discourses of exile and pilgrimage in Dante's Vita nova (forthcoming)and is now working on a book on the technical literary importance of the theme of exile in Dante, provisionally entitled Exile and Authorship in Dante. He has also published articles in the field of modern Italian literature: one on the theatre of Pier Paolo Pasolini (forthcoming), and two on the translation of dialect poetry (2005, 2008). As well as his work in translation studies he is an active translator, having produced English versions of works by Primo Levi (2007), Pier Paolo Pasolini (2004), the Roman dialect poet Trilussa (2005) and, most recently, Prof. Paolo Grossi's A History of European Law (forthcoming).
