The first of Werner Herzog’s celebrated collaborations with the Klaus Kinski follows the pursuit of the mythical El Dorado in Peru by Spanish conquistadors. Kinski stars as Aguirre, a commanding officer who seeks control of the doomed mission. This staggering portrait of man against nature filmed in extreme conditions in the Amazon rainforest is brilliantly set adrift by the inimitably manic Kinski.
