Annie Abbott is a nationally known leader in L2 Community Based Learning (CBL). Her many articles, frequent conference presentations, popular Spanish CBL blog, http://spanishandillinois.blogspot.com/, and intermediate level Spanish CBL textbook, Comunidades, are all evidence of her scholarship and leadership in the field. Not only has she taught several different CBL courses, like her recent “Spanish for Business” course, she also brings her perspective of overarching curricular issues thanks to her role as Director of Undergraduate Studies for her department. Weaving Community Based Learning
Throughout the Language Curriculum
By tracing the winding path of college language students, we can deliberately map community based learning onto several points of that trajectory. In this talk, Ann will chart some pivotal points in "the language student experience" and suggest ways both big and small that we can capitalize on those moments to help students situate themselves and their learning within communities.
